 004  ROLEPLAYING.i'm pretty chill with most RP topics, including darker themes and NSFW, and most writing styles. however, communication is key. if you have certain expectations of how you want our RP to go, please tell me upfront! i am eager to please pretty flexible and adaptable, but i am not a mind-reader, and i'm too old for OOC drama (but bring the IC drama all you like, i love that shit!)some of my characters are little bastards. a lot of them are tough nuts to crack, and will not be open books right away. a lot of them are deeply messy individuals. more than a few are all at once. please don't take their in character behaviour as my out of character feelings - again, i'm too old for OOC drama. i've tried to include notes (and relevant warnings) about what to expect when RPing with each of my characters on their individual pages, after their backstories.i don't really RP a lot of fandom characters as i generally live under a rock and don't consume media, and any fandom characters i do have will almost always be OCs. i play fast and loose with fandom a lot, so if it's fandom RP you're after, don't expect a strict adherence to canon.

BIOGRAPHY

- born in the elemental plane of fire
- has lived many hundreds, if not thousands of lives, but recalls none of them
- this incarnation is only recently reborn, and - unusually - has memories trickling through of his past life as the firebird
- the firebird was (still is, technically speaking) a conquest paladin, who trained under helikaon in the red dragon's army
- quickly rose through the ranks, and was soon placed among an elite force of dragon riders - paladins who formed a lifelong bond with a dragon, and fought together as a cohesive unit
- phoenix's dragon was kash'cotrix, the prince of the red kingdom and son of the red greatwyrm at the time, ashardalon
- the two formed an even stronger bond than most dragons and riders, and were devastatingly powerful in combat together, razing cities with ease - and it wasn't long until the two fell hard and fast in love
- kash'cotrix eventually turned his sights to overthrowing ashardalon and becoming the red greatwyrm himself
- phoenix, in turn, was tasked with destroying king cold, the white greatwyrm - and, somehow, succeeded, killing him and becoming the champion of the red dragon kingdom
- and after this fight, kash'cotrix proposed to phoenix
- ashardalon, however, had other plans; he told kash'cotrix that, due to killing king cold, phoenix was to be killed in turn - and that he was "just a paladin, we'll find you another"
- which enraged kash'cotrix so badly that he killed ashardalon there and then, tearing open his chest and consuming his heart in order to become the red greatwyrm
- he and phoenix married soon after, and phoenix became the crown prince of the red kingdom
- lord freezer, who was next in line after king cold, sought revenge, staging a duel with king kash'cotrix at which he had helikaon and phoenix assassinated, injecting him with wyvern toxin and tearing off his wings
- in the battle, he also removed kash's arm
- defeated and weakened by the loss of his husband, kash was returned to the red kingdom, where he hibernated deep in the bowels of a volcano in order to be restored to health
- in this current incarnation, it seems that while phoenix was in elysium with tiamat, he struck a deal that split his soul - wanting to leave kash only the very best of him
- and the current version of phoenix, who returned as as sorcerer, was weaker, as a result, and deeply anxious and afraid - but kinder, and resolved to do good in a terrible world
- lord freezer, however, had the other half of phoenix's soul trapped in his own wedding ring, and forced it into the corpse of helikaon in order to fight - and destroy - what remained of phoenix and his adventuring party
- but, sensing the terrible pain in his other half, phoenix approached him with kindness instead, healing his wounds and convincing him that they were not the enemy, that they wanted to help kash, and that they should fight freezer together
- and so the revenant of the firebird broke his oath of conquest
- for a time, the two remained separate, the firebird's soul still trapped in helikaon's body - until, on an excursion to the mithril hall, phoenix was killed by a clay golem
- upon being resurrected by the cruach, the firebird's soul made to reclaim his body - but the two halves of his soul were conflicted and separate still, the firebird nearly consuming phoenix
- as time went on they settled into a bit of a co-hosting situation, terse though it was, until in a recent fight with freezer, freezer somehow managed to fuse his soul back into one piece
and as of now phoenix is still trying to settle into himself, more stable now there's not two souls grappling for control, but equally finding it harder and harder to keep a lid on his anger and settle into his old self

LILITH’s family, as was common for gnomes, were insatiably curious and obsessed with how things worked, how things could be taken apart and repurposed and put back together anew.Lilith’s particular interests, though, were in two things: magic, and bodies.She took little stock in divine magic, though - asking nicely for magic from the gods was certainly … one way to do it; but she never really liked having to answer to other people, or not knowing exactly how the things she used functioned. If magic could be learned, independent of an outside supplier, she was going to learn it, no matter how long it took.She excelled in her arcane studies, known perhaps less for any natural intelligence than for her dogged persistence and unshakeable work ethic - and her deft, clever hands, capable of working even the tiniest, most intricate mechanics. While her fellow students were summoning cats and owls and snakes, Lilith built her first familiar herself: a beautiful, jewel-green stag beetle named Juniper, her finest work of mechanical prowess.And while her fellow students were learning to blow up rooms with fireballs, she poured her attention into books about anatomy, and parasites, and all of the wonderful, terrible ways bodies could fall apart - and be put back together. Soon after building Juniper, she built herself another mechanical marvel: her Asklepios, Jasper, a mosquito the size of a large house cat, who could inject magic into allies while Lilith stood at a comfortable distance.Her fascination with healing was morbid, and certainly not out of any sense of compassion - more a testing of limits, a compulsion to know each and every possibility. Finding opportunities to test her knowledge practically, though, was a different matter.Until she went back home, somewhat defeated, wondering if her work would remain theory forever, and found her small, Gnomish town razed to the ground, practically obliterated out of existence.And found survivors, with gaping wounds and harsh burns and missing limbs.It was something of a trial-by-fire, ha - but it gave her a crash course in perfecting her designs. Jasper's needle-like proboscis injected healing magic into those who weren’t too badly hurt, and the ones who were too desperate for relief to refuse her help were subjected to robotic creatures that burrowed and writhed beneath their flesh, painstakingly knitting muscle and skin and bones back together.It all made for excellent research.

  IDENAERY     main game.  The year is 2631 of the Common Era. The Drathik Hegemony has stood for over 600 years, fending off attacks from the Lemus Union and their war machines, and brokering peace between the other powerful nations of Olopon; on the eastern coast of the continent and on an isle off it, the Sentora Maritime Confederecy controls the oceans. Once nothing more than a loose collection of brigands and pirates, years of bleeding into the salt left them with hollow hearts and empty holds – thus they endeavoured to create a home that they could be proud of. To the west, the Holy See of Razia has risen like a beacon in the past twenty years. Once nothing more than a violent, exlusionist state of warring, brutal tribal chieftens held together barely by the weak-willed King, the nation was almost annihilated by a seemingly divine driven sickness that turned it's citizens into radiant blighted beasts. Only the rulership and power of the once-Prince now Supreme Archon tamed the beasts, and saved the land from consumption. (WIP)Talon - born Daniel - is the son of Helena Ashdown, a human servant, and Glynfaren Firadel, an elven wizard and Helena's employer.When Helena and Glynfaren first started courting in secret, Helena truly believed Glynfaren loved her; whether she was right, or whether that was exactly what Glynfaren wanted her to believe, is truly anyone's guess. Glynfaren was a powerful Enchantment wizard, a specialist in manipulating the mind, emotions, and memories - and, from the moment he first picked up a spellbook, took great delight in using those powers for his own personal gain.It wasn't long, then, until Helena was carrying his child, fully swept away by the forbidden romance of it all; Glynfaren wasn't betrothed, per se, but the Firadel line was old, old blood, and there were certain expectations in place. Expectations like not knocking up your servants, for one - especially a human servant.But what was done was done, and with the birth of her son, Glynfaren had one more chain to tighten around his unwitting servant's neck - and a brand new plaything, completely unmarked, to use to experiment with his Enchantment magic.Of course, the moment that Helena realised what was happening to her and her son - even through altered memories and emotions - she attempted, many times, to take him and flee, or even just to tell anyone what was happening to her. But Glynfaren, with his natural elven charm bolstered by powerful magic, only had to say that she was mad, possessed, tragically obsessed with him; and with her word against his, there was little to be done.But that didn't stop her loving Daniel with every fibre of her heart; her son was everything she had ever wanted, and she loved him more than she'd ever loved anything before. In the quiet away from Glynfaren's prying eyes, she taught him how to play the piano, and how to be gentle with animals; she introduced him to the other servants and their children, so he knew he would always have friends in the underbelly of society; and she hoped, against hope, that loving him enough would spare him from the torment his father inflicted on him.It didn't save him, and it certainly didn't save her, either. BIOGRAPHY

Talon is the son of Helena Firadel, a lone young shifter, and Ulisse Esposito, a very rich and very old vampire.Helena, having recently departed from her pack at 19 and ever the hopeless romantic, was swept away in the “forbidden romance” of it all when Ulisse - her employer - started courting her in secret. It wasn’t long until she was with child; and, just as it dawned on her that he now had her trapped, with no pack to call on or family to help her, the chain that Ulisse had been carefully placing around her neck was pulled taut.Ulisse, like so many vampires, was outrageously charismatic, and could wrap just about anyone around his little finger whether magic was involved or not. His wealth was old wealth, passed down through previous generations, and to Talon it had always seemed just about infinite. However, he cared little for the mongrel that his plaything had spawned - perhaps hated even more that Talon bore such a striking resemblance to him. Behind closed doors, he was callous and cruel to them both, often subjecting them to intense abuse where his mind-altering magic was very much involved, from changing their memories and perceptions of reality to quelling their emotions entirely in order to feed on their blood.Despite everything, though, Helena adored her son with every fibre of her being. As he grew older, she and Talon were always as thick as thieves. They shared a wicked sense of humour, their love of cats, and some of Talon’s fondest memories are of his mother teaching him to play the piano.When Talon was about to turn 15, he and his mother made their first - and only - attempt to escape together. Helena had heard of a place that could shelter them - the Schismatic, the twin skyscrapers that pierced the skyline of downtown Shaybury. All they had to do was make it there, and they would be free.They left in the quiet of the night, and it almost seemed they had succeeded in getting away, at first. But the city was dense, and neither of them knew it well. It was easy for Ulisse to hunt them down, catching up to them just as morning’s light broke the horizon - and, after they were … escorted home, Helena died very suddenly.Ulisse told Talon it was suicide, and until very recently, Talon had believed it - believed he was part of the cause, the reason that she couldn’t get away, and the guilt all but consumed him. But, shortly after he turned 19, something in his mind finally snapped, and he remembered - remembered his mother’s screams, the hideous crunch, and the awful splatter of viscera as Ulisse took his true vampiric form, loomed over her, and crushed her head in his claws with the effortlessness of crushing a quail’s egg.And for the first time in his life - at least, the first time he can truly remember - he shifted, and in a blind, feral rage, he attacked his father.It was a short fight, and one that Ulisse won handily - centuries of vampiric strength and power, and nineteen years of a regular supply of fresh blood, had made him far stronger a foe than Talon could have truly fathomed. But, even beaten and bloodied, Talon managed to flee. He ran until every muscle in his body seared, his adrenaline burned out and the lupine form dropped, and then kept running for good measure.For a few days, he laid low, licking his wounds, sticking to Shaybury’s back alleys and dark corners. The days smudged together as sleep refused to take hold, and his body flickered between human and lupine forms near-constantly in the fight-or-flight he found himself in. Most regular humans who found him seemed to assume he was an aggressive stray dog, and gave him a wide berth.In the flurry of his leaving, all he had was his torn-up clothes, a shattered phone, and a few cents that had been forgotten about in his jeans. But he did, at least, have a destination: the twin skyscrapers of the Schismatic, the place his mother had tried to take them all those years ago.He dragged himself there and, in his sorry and barely lucid state, begged them to let him stay and protect him from his father. It took little, if any, convincing for him to become a member, and he’s been staying in the Schismatic’s housing in the months since. Mostly, he’s trying to get back on his feet and build some semblance of a normal life for himself, one that isn’t completely ruled by fear and lived on his own terms - but, especially being only 19, he has a long, long way to go before he figures that all out.Eventually, though, he knows he’ll have to face his father again. This time, he’ll finish what he started.

HEADCANONS

  PHYSICAL    DEXTEROUS. Talon is surprisingly dextrous, in a slinky, cat-like sort of way; he moves quick and quiet, more shadow than person. Usually, all this means is that he has a tendency to startle passersby who hadn’t noticed him, but it does often allow for him to clear the scene before a situation turns nasty.NIGHT OWL. Talon’s sleep schedule is a travesty. His waking hours usually range between 4pm and 7am, depending on how much coffee he imbibes during that time - something in the rogue strands of his vampire DNA don’t tend to agree with being out and about during daylight hours, and neither do his antisocial tendencies. (He isn’t harmed by sunlight, necessarily, but being out in bright daylight too long does tend to give him a headache.)COFFEE FIEND. Talon’s primary love is coffee, and he isn’t fussy about it. As long as he can have it black, he’s happy.BOTTOMLESS STOMACH. Talon’s other primary love is food. He has a ravenous appetite, and will eat just about anything put in front of him. One of the quickest ways to his heart (if, for some unfortunate reason, you find yourself wanting to get near it) is a home-cooked meal. (Unfortunately, he is a dogshit cook, and very rarely cooks anything more complicated than instant ramen for himself.)  MENTAL    LONE WOLF. Not even necessarily deliberately. He tends to exude “stay away” energy, in the same way a frightened stray dog might. He’s mostly bark, though, and not a lot of bite; the moment things turn to the physical, he would normally rather run than throw hands. Especially because, once cornered, he’s likely to shift - and once he shifts, he is no longer himself. Better the safety of being alone than the danger of being around others.GUILTY CONSCIENCE. If there’s one thing Talon feels as much, if not more, than fear, it’s guilt. There’s a part of him that still has never forgiven himself for what happened to his mother, and an even greater part of him that feels like something is just fundamentally broken, that can never truly be fixed. He keeps this part of himself close to the chest, for obvious reasons, but it does give him a vaguely haunted energy.PARANOID. Talon has spent all his life unable to trust his own senses and memories, and because of this, he’s never 100% sure that what he’s experiencing is real. In the few months he’s lived in Shaybury, away from his father’s vampiric influence, he’s just begun to start trusting at least his human experience again - but with his blackouts when he shifts, he’s still not entirely confident that he can always trust his mind.ANTI-AUTHORITY. Talon deeply does not care for authority figures, and more generally does not often take kindly to being told what to do. He’s basically the direct result of corrupt authority being allowed to run rampant, and simply does not have the time or energy to respect anyone simply because they hold a position of power over him.

  ASTYR   was never quite content with the idea of living out a life of solitude, never seeing anything beyond the Golmore Jungle. For as long as he could remember, he felt a pull to the world outside, a calling to adventure - like he was meant for so much more than the lonely life of a Wood-Warder.For much of his life, these fantasies were dismissed out of hand. BIOGRAPHY

  UNARCHIMEG "ANARCHY" KARASU   is the daughter of Dagasi Notas, a no-tribe Xaela warrior, and Harunaka Karasu, a Hingashi merchant who was recruited by the Sharlayan Forum for his contacts and knowledge in the trade of aether-rich artifacts.Dagasi was a member of a small tribe that was annihilated by the Dotharl while she was out hunting, and rather than bend the knee to the Dotharl, she instead scraped a living hanging around Reunion doing odd jobs for the Qestir, translating for merchants who came to trade from Yanxia and escorting traders back and forth.One day, she found Harunaka being harrassed by two young Buduga warriors. She stepped in and thrashed them, earning Harunaka's respect, gratitude and deep founded attraction.She signed on as a caravan guard, leaving the Steppes for the first time, and saw the world beyond the borders of her homeland. She travelled with Harunaka, and the two eventually fell in love and married, with Dagasi giving birth to their daughter while on the road. She named her daughter Unarchimeg so that she would retain a connection to her ancestral homeland, which means "disruptor" in Old Auri.Harunaka was recruited by the Forum when Unarchimeg was around 11 and, wishing to give his wife and daughter a better life, he agreed to join the Sharlayan's and offer his talents and skills to their undertaking. Dagasi worked as a guard for Gleaners and occasional monster hunter/capturer for the Forum, while Unarchimeg grew up learning in Sharlayan's schools.Unarchimeg was a friendly and outgoing child, but often struggled with outbursts of anger, becoming physically violent when her patience ran thin and seemingly within moments. Seeing the upset that this often caused his daughter, Harunaka showed her the basics of weaving as an activity to busy her restless energy and keep her head when her temper flared hot - and, blessedly, she took to it with ease.However, as she grew older and disputes became harder to settle with fists and fighting, Unarchimeg's violent anger became one of her greatest insecurities. While she still made every effort to be friendly and kind, she became somewhat withdrawn, often bottling her true feelings in an attempt to keep those she cared for safe from them. Dagasi often offered to train her in combat in order to channel her violent urges more effectively - and, when Unarchimeg finally took the plunge, it was a blessed relief to find that she had a knack for swinging an axe. Dagasi taught her daughter how to channel her rage to protect those she loved, just as she had done as a warrior on the Steppe.Unarchimeg never stopped weaving, either, finding comfort and calm in the practice when swinging an axe at the problem was a less viable option. As a result, at 20, Unarchimeg was admitted to the Studium for her talents with arcane weaving, showing great proficiency with weaving magical thread directly into new and existing clothing to imbue it with magical protections.She met Asami Bakuro on her first day at the Studium, when two older students were making suggestive comments with regard to her 'savage' Xaela lineage. Asami smashed one of their faces off a wall, adopted her, and nicknamed her Anarchy. Anarchy has been somewhat glued to Asami ever since - against the better judgement of all involved.
